Grant Massie Land Company specializes in land offering brokerage and consulting services, community development and residential services in central Virginia. Our team of real estate professionals consists of the highest number of Accredited Land Consultants of any brokerage firm in Virginia, as well as two Consulting Foresters, a Certified Commercial Investment Member and three Certified Residential Specialists.

William “Bill” G. Grant

Bill is a licensed Virginia Real Estate Broker who has been active in real estate brokerage since 1978. He is also one of only 300 ALCs in the U.S. In 2005 Bill received the Virginia RLI Largest Land Transaction of the Year Award. Bill was the 1988 President of the Virginia Chapter REALTORS Land Institute (RLI), a member of the Board of Governors of the National RLI, and the 1986 recipient of the Virginia Chapter RLI "Land REALTOR of the Year" Award. Bill has completed more than 25 specialized real estate courses and is well known throughout Virginia for his experience in forestry, land brokerage, and creative solutions to real estate problems. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a B.S. in Forestry in 1963.

Ned has held a Virginia Real Estate license since 1972 and a Broker’s license since 1976. He is the only REALTOR in Virginia to hold the ALC and CCIM designations, as well as an MBA. Ned was the 2005 President of the Virginia Chapter REALTORS Land Institute (RLI) and previously served as the 1982 President. In 1989 Ned served as President of the National RLI. In 2005 Ned was Named REALTOR of the Year by the Richmond Association of REALTORS, Educator of the Year by the Virginia Associations of REALTORS and was inducted into the National Omega Tau Rho Fraternity. From 1983 to 1990, Ned won various awards including: "Land Broker of the Year", "Salesman of the Year", "Land REALTOR of America", and "REALTOR of the Year". He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1971 and obtained his MBA from The College of William and Mary in 1993. Ned has completed over 25 specialized real estate courses. He has also completed the acquisition, rezoning, and development of numerous residential subdivisions, mixed-use business parks, and buildings for various clients. Ned is also a national RLI instructor teaching “Land Development” and “Land 101.”

James “Jim” H. Benson

For the past 30 years Jim has been a Virginia Real Estate Broker. Prior to entering the field of real estate he was an Air Force Pilot and a Sales and Administrative Executive with Plumbing Brass Manufacturer. During his real estate career he has been the managing Broker of a brokerage company as well as the developer of several projects. Development activities have included rural subdivisions, urban subdivisions, office buildings and condominiums.

Jeffrey Huff joined Grant Massie Land Company in July 2004 after finishing his Master of Science in Forestry at Virginia Tech. Before pursuing his masters, Jeff received a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from West Virginia University. In 2005 Jeff was named Virginia Land REALTOR Rookie of the Year by the Virginia Chapter of RLI and was recently elected President of the Virginia Chapter of the REALTORS Land Institute (RLI).
Before coming to work at Grant Massie Land Company, Jeff interned with the West Virginia Division of Forestry. During the internship he assisted with timber cruises, completed forest health surveys, and logging operation inspections and participated in landowner education and assistance programs.
Jeff is involved in a number of professional organizations related to his interests in forestry and real estate. He is currently a member of the National Association of REALTORS, Richmond Association of REALTORS, Society of American Foresters, the Virginia Forestry Association and the Xi Sigma Pi Forestry Honor Society. While at West Virginia University, Jeff served as Treasurer for the Society of American Foresters as well as President and Vice President for Xi Sigma Pi.

REALTOR
Horace Higgins began his real estate career at Grant Massie Land Company in April, 2005. Before coming to Grant Massie, Horace owned and ran his own trucking business, which he operated for over 30 years serving the lumber, paper and logging industries. Since joining Grant Massie , he has begun actively seeking the Accredited Land Consultant designations. Horace currently serves on the Board of Zoning Appeals for Sussex County, the Town of Waverly and is on the Board of Directors for Southside Bank in Waverly where he lives. Horace covers Surry, Sussex, Southampton, Isle of Wight and Brunswick Counties.

Cecil E. Sears
REALTOR, Director of Research & Consulting Services
Cecil E. Sears is the newest member of our team. In January of 2008, Cecil became the Director of Research and Consulting Services for Grant Massie Land Company. Cecil is also Vice President of the VCU Real Estate Foundation's Board of Directors and Chairman of its audit committee. Previously, Cecil was Director of Economic Research at Integra Realty Resources-Richmond. Prior to coming to Richmond, he was Senior Research Associate at the Urban Land Institute and Assistant Director for Economics and Education at the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, both in Washington, DC. He has taught real estate courses at the University of Maryland, Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University. His research has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Builder Magazine, and Pension and Investment Age, as well as over 100 articles in the Richmond Times Dispatch.
